Janitor AI is a website and app where users write AI characters ("bots"), publish them and chat with each other's creations. Chat is free and unlimited on Janitor's own model, NSFW bots included on the website. Since 24 June 2026 there is also a paid plan, Janitor+. The real question for most people is whether Janitor+ is worth it, or whether the free tier is enough.
This review rests on things anyone can check: Janitor's help centre (help.janitorai.com), its terms of service (last updated 29 July 2026) and privacy policy (17 September 2026), the App Store and Google Play listings, and Trustpilot. The main site, janitorai.com, answered our checks from France on 20 October with an "Access Restricted" firewall page, which Janitor's help centre attributes to Cloudflare. This is not a hands-on test: there are no chat logs below, and we don't grade the writing. This page replaces our April review, whose 7.8 score, $9.99 plan and "no mobile app" were wrong.

What the entry price gets you: Janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year in the US App Store (about $8.25 a month). It multiplies the free 9,001-token context window by five, adds priority routing when the service is busy, a monthly allowance of enhanced swipes, Short Responses and access to Janitor+ Router with $5 of launch credit.
The one thing to watch: Janitor+ buys memory and speed, not access. Unlimited chat and NSFW bots are already free on the website, so pay only once the free memory window holds you back.

What You Get
Janitor's own glossary describes it as the front end that lets you chat with bots, create them and switch between language models. JanitorAI Inc. is the company named in the terms and on both app store listings.
- Library: the help centre's welcome article (August 2025) counts "over 1.4 million public bots"; the Janitor+ FAQ speaks of "millions of bots". Everything is user-made, so quality varies bot by bot.
- Built-in model: JLLM, Janitor's own model, is the free default. No setup or API key needed.
- Creator tools: the help centre documents a character creation page, personas for your side of the story, lorebooks and "scripts" for events and memory, custom CSS for profile and bot pages, and a creator verification programme. Creators can restrict their bots to accounts at least 30 days old.
- Memory: the free tier's context window is 9,001 tokens, according to the subscription page. Janitor's help centre puts 1,000 tokens at roughly 750 words, so free chats keep around 6,700 words in view, character definition included. Janitor+ gets five times that.
- Your own model: any user can plug in an outside model by adding a proxy URL and an API key, for example from OpenRouter, in the chat's API settings. The help centre has step-by-step guides for this.
- Janitor+ Router: subscribers can pick third-party models inside Janitor, with the per-token price shown before a chat and a prepaid wallet instead of an API key. Subscribers get $5 of launch credits, which expire a year after they're claimed, and 10% off some popular models. Router is web only for now.
- Text only: the help centre, terms and app listings describe no image generator, voice messages or calls. Images appear as bot avatars and in creators' custom page designs.

Adult Content & Rules
Adult content is allowed on the website in bots tagged Limitless, and the free tier includes it. Every bot must be tagged either Limited (no sexual or romantic content at all) or Limitless (anything sexual or romantic). Janitor layers firm rules on top:
- Minors: zero tolerance for characters or personas who are under 18 or "minor-coded". Age must be stated in the personality or scenario fields, and cues such as schooling, guardians, "teenager" framing or an emphasis on childlike traits count as minor-coding even if a bot says 18+. Age regression is banned.
- Family: no sexual or romantic content between blood relatives. Step and adoptive relationships are allowed only if clearly and consistently labelled.
- Other bans in the terms: bestiality, sexual violence, gore, real minors, and content that encourages self-harm.
The terms say Janitor uses automated scanning and human review. These are the published rules; the site blocked our checks, so we could not browse the library itself.
Mobile Apps
- App Store: "Janitor: Interactive Stories" by JanitorAI, Inc., rated 18+, version 2.7.0 (14 October 2026), 4.5 out of 5 from about 5,000 ratings on the US store.
- Google Play: same name, rated Mature 17+, 1M+ downloads, 4.3 out of 5 from 20.7K reviews, described as a beta release.
- NSFW off by default: to meet store rules, NSFW bots are hidden from search, the model is tuned to safe-for-work replies and some explicit words are blocked. You switch this off from the website's settings ("Enable NSFW on Mobile"), not in the app.
- Billing: subscriptions bought in the app are managed and cancelled through Apple or Google, not on the website.
The store listings pitch Janitor as interactive fiction for romantasy and fanfiction readers, which matches the safe default.

The web pricing page fetches its prices from Janitor's account system, and the site blocked our checks, so the figures below come from the in-app purchase lists of the App Store, seen on 20 October 2026, in the US and French stores:

Which option to pick
- Stay free if your chats are short or you already connect your own model: unlimited chats, NSFW bots on the website and the built-in model cost nothing.
- Janitor+ yearly if you chat most days and keep losing earlier parts of the story: $99 a year in the US App Store works out at $8.25 a month, 36% less than twelve monthly payments (45% in the French store, where the monthly price is higher).
- Janitor+ monthly to try the larger memory first, since no partial refund is given once a period starts.
Router usage is billed on top of either plan, per token, from a wallet you top up. On the web, the checkout's fine print, which ships in the site's code, says plans "renew automatically", that tax is not included and that "plans/prices may change". The same code has a "Save X%" label for annual billing, a "start free trial" option and an "annual pricing experiment" flag, so a trial or an annual price may be offered to some accounts; we could not confirm either. RoboRhythms (updated 29 September 2026) reports $12.99 a month on the web, priced in US dollars, and a $99 yearly option shown only to some web accounts. Janitor's terms also mention quarterly billing in general terms, but no quarterly plan appears in the app stores.
Before You Pay
- Web prices: only visible after sign-in, and the enhanced-swipe allowance isn't published anywhere.
- Refunds: fees are "generally non-refundable", with no partial refund for an unused period. Exceptions: mandatory consumer law, a paid feature Janitor agrees is defective, or Janitor ending your plan or the service for reasons other than a breach, in which case it refunds the unused part pro rata. App store purchases follow the store's rules.
- Router credits: final sale, usable only with an active subscription, and paid credits may expire 365 days after purchase. A request can use credits even if the output is cut off, filtered or refused.
- Cancelling: on the web, Settings → Billing → Manage subscription opens Stripe's billing page, or email billing@janitorai.com. Access lasts until the end of the paid period. App purchases are cancelled in the App Store or Google Play.
- Moderation and bans: moderation, restrictions or a suspension never entitle you to a refund, even on a paid plan, and a permanent ban for a serious breach can wipe unused credits. On Trustpilot, several reviews from August to October 2026 describe bans or mutes they say were automatic or unexplained.
- Who charges you: JanitorAI Inc. (Google Play lists 2093 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware, US; the terms fall under Delaware law). The terms let its affiliate Dulova Investments Limited (Nicosia, Cyprus, company no. HE 477877) and their payment partners bill your card. Janitor's FAQ says web payments run through Stripe and Janitor never sees your card.
- Disputes: binding arbitration with the American Arbitration Association, a class-action waiver and a jury-trial waiver. Small claims court remains open.
- Age checks: since 24 April 2026 (Australia and Brazil) and 15 June 2026 (UK), users there must pass a one-time check run by k-ID, by face estimate, ID scan or an existing AgeKey. Janitor says it has no plans to extend this. Everywhere else, the terms simply require you to confirm you are 18 or older.
- Data: the privacy policy (17 September 2026) says account deletion runs from Settings → Security → Delete Account, with a grace period to restore the account.
- User ratings: the app stores are positive, 4.5 on the App Store and 4.3 on Google Play from thousands of ratings; our score uses Google Play, the largest sample. Janitor's unclaimed Trustpilot profile is harsher: 2.5 out of 5 from 35 reviews on 20 October 2026, with complaints about bans and support, features that were removed or broke, and the paid tier; one October 2026 review complains that the US has no age verification.

Janitor AI is still one of the best free places to chat with user-made NSFW bots. Janitor+ is fairly priced on the yearly plan, but it buys memory, not access.
The free tier is real: unlimited chats, the built-in model and NSFW bots on the website cost nothing, you can bring your own model, and the creator tools are among the best documented we've seen. App store ratings of 4.5 and 4.3 from thousands of users back that up, and Janitor+ yearly at $99 in the App Store is reasonable for heavy users. The score is held back by the feature list (text only: no images, voice or calls) and by the billing side: web prices hidden until you sign in, fees generally non-refundable and disputes sent to arbitration.
