What ChatRoger Is

Roger's FAQ describes it as "an AI companion app built for gay, bi, and queer men", and the product follows through. Every companion is male. The browse filters are tribes (jock, bear, otter, twink, daddy, wolf, muscle bear, twunk, cub), and the FAQ counts "over 17,000" companions, nearly all created by users. The biggest homepage counters belong to official characters from the @roger account (783k for Brad, 685k for Adrian, 415k for Ryker); most community characters sit in the tens of thousands.

The front door is SFW. Explicit content lives on a separate adult feed ("Want the uncensored feed? Switch to the adult 18+ version"), and where local law requires it, entry goes through Yoti age verification, with the option to "continue without adult content" if you'd rather not. Our visit from France was flagged for verification. The interface runs in English and Latin American Spanish. We found no App Store or Google Play app; ChatRoger is a web app you can pin to your home screen.

User-made characters mean uneven quality. A few community taglines on the public homepage push right up against the platform's own rules, which suggests community cards get a light check before going live.

The Prices, Region by Region

Unlike most of this category, ChatRoger shows prices before sign-up. The upgrade page we loaded on 29 September 2026 listed Premium at $89.99 a year (shown as "$7.50/month"), and the page data put the monthly plan at $14.99 for our region. The site's code also carries a regional price table, and the plans get noticeably cheaper outside the richest markets:

We saw tier-1 prices live. Tiers 2 and 3 come from the JavaScript price table and could not be loaded from our location, so read them as what the code says, not as a quote. The same code records a June 2026 Pride promotion at $11.99 a month in tier 1, so seasonal discounts do happen.

Premium includes unlimited messages, better memory, voice messages, image and video generation, custom companions, live audio calls, 1,000 credits a month, 50% off credit packs and no watermarks. Free accounts chat under a daily limit; confirming your email lifts it and adds 50 credits, according to the interface.

What a Credit Actually Buys

Credits pay for everything beyond text, and the live page lists the costs: 10 credits per voice message, 30 per image, 100 per video, 100 to create a companion. Here is what that means in dollars at tier-1 prices:

The monthly grant covers about 33 images, or 10 videos, or 100 voice messages. Two rules make the system friendlier than most. Credits never expire, whether they come from a pack or the monthly grant, and you keep them after cancelling; the upgrade FAQ and the refund policy both say so. On the other side of the ledger, a free account pays exactly double for every pack, so packs are really priced as a Premium add-on. Custom Boyfriends, Calls and Shorts

The builder starts from a text description ("What's he like?") or a preset look such as firefighter, silver fox, bartender, lifeguard, cowboy or bear. Roger generates image and voice options, you pick one of each, and the build takes about five minutes. It costs 100 credits, and the interface warns that the image, voice and description are permanent once created. It also refuses real people: "Roger cannot generate images of real people" and "cannot generate voices of real people" are built-in rejection messages.

In chat, Roger can spot when you're asking for a picture and send one without a command. Memories form on their own; adding, editing or clearing them is a Premium perk, as are live audio calls. We found no per-minute price for calls anywhere public, which points to calls being included with Premium rather than metered like voice messages.

Shorts are the unusual extra: short episodic AI video dramas, nine series and 36 episodes on 29 September. A third-party review dated 21 September reported watching them without spending credits, but the site's price table already holds a 100-credit "Shorts episode" price, so we wouldn't count on them staying free.

Two Sales Tricks Worth Knowing

The countdown that drops the days. The annual plan carries a "Welcome offer" timer with 3,000 bonus credits. When we loaded the page it read 23:17:34, which looks like an offer ending tonight. The code says the offer runs until 31 December 2026, and the timer formats the remaining time within 24 hours, throwing the days away. On 29 September, 92 of them were left. The bonus is real. The urgency is manufactured.

The $29.99 anchor. The annual plan is displayed as "$29.99" struck through, then "$7.50/month" and "Save 75%". The monthly plan costs $14.99 in the same region; $29.99 is a fixed "list price" in the code, used only to compute the discount badge. Against what you would actually pay month to month ($179.88 a year), $89.99 saves 50%. That is still a good deal if you'll stay a year.

Privacy on an App That Knows Your Orientation

The privacy notice (updated 10 July 2026) says plainly that what you share "may reveal sensitive personal information, such as your sexual orientation or health". On a gay app, that is a given. The same notice lists the advertising services on the site: Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Snapchat Pixel, Triple Whale, TikTok Pixel, Grindr and the Pinterest Tag. If you accept cookies, sign-ups and purchases are also sent to Meta's Conversions API with a hashed email, IP address and user agent, and renewals can be reported as a hashed email plus the transaction value.

None of that touches your chats, and the homepage FAQ promises conversations are "never shared, made public, or used for advertising". It does mean the fact that you joined and paid for a gay AI boyfriend app can reach ad platforms tied to your identity once you click accept. Decline marketing cookies, use a separate email, or both. The named sub-processors are Supabase, PostHog, Google Analytics and Resend, all in the US. No AI model provider is listed, and data is kept "for as long as we have a business relationship with you".

Company, Billing and Refunds

ChatRoger is operated by Life AI Technologies, LLC. The terms (updated 6 August 2026) place the owner in Delaware and give a San Francisco mailing address, 2261 Market Street, Suite 86911; we found no named team or founders. The domain was registered on 16 May 2025. Disputes go to individual AAA arbitration under Delaware law, with a class-action waiver.

Billing is Visa or Mastercard only, with 3D Secure, and charges read "Life AI Technologies". The refund policy (2 April 2026) promises a receipt for every charge and a reminder email before each renewal. You cancel from the Account page under Payment & Billing and keep Premium to the end of the period. Refunds are tight: within 24 hours, card only, and refused once you've used more than 100 credits of a subscription or any credits from a pack. A ban for breaking the rules forfeits unused credits.

As for reputation, there isn't one yet. On 29 September 2026 chatroger.com had no Trustpilot page and we found no Reddit threads about it. For a product about 16 months old that is not damning, but it leaves the refund policy as the only safety net you can read in advance.

ChatRoger gets the hard part right. It knows who it is for, and everything from the filters to the preset looks to the copy reflects that. Its pricing is more open than most competitors': prices visible before sign-up, published credit costs, credits that never expire, a reminder before renewals. At $14.99 a month in the US, or $9.99 across most of Latin America per its code, Premium with 1,000 credits is fair value if you use the images. The score stays at 6.3 because of the rest: a countdown built to look like it ends tonight, a discount computed against a price nobody pays, a stack of ad pixels on an app that knows your orientation, and a company with no public faces and 16 months of history.

Use Roger if you want a boyfriend app that assumes you're gay from the first screen, you'll use the monthly credits, and you're comfortable declining marketing cookies at sign-up.

Skip it if you need a native app, you want a company with a track record, or pixels from Meta and Grindr on a boyfriend app are a dealbreaker.
