People search for it as "Sakura AI", "Sakura FM" or just "Sakura chat", and Google happily mixes those results with a handful of unrelated anime photo-filter apps that also use the word. If you're here for the roleplay platform, this is the one.

Structurally it's a Character AI descendant: a public library of user-created bots sorted by message count (the top character sat above 9 million messages when we looked), category tags that tell you exactly who the audience is — Anime, Yandere, Tsundere, OC, Video Games, Horror, Male, Female, Non-binary — a persona editor for building your own, and a Discord server that functions as the platform's actual town square. Add a Speak button that reads replies aloud, a "Show NSFW (18+)" switch in settings, and a subscription called Sakura+ that unlocks better models and memory.

What it isn't: an AI girlfriend app in the Candy or DreamGF sense. There's no curated roster of companions, no photo requests on the base tiers, no video, and no attempt to be a relationship product. Sakura is a roleplay engine with a fandom around it. Judge it as that and it does well; judge it as an adult companion and it comes up short.

Sakura+ Pricing, Tier by Tier

Prices below are the App Store list prices, which match the web checkout outside sale windows. The site runs periodic "SALE" banners and annual billing is presented as a percentage saving, so treat these as ceilings.

Gold — $5/month. Double memory, a VIP Discord channel, a Gold role and a Gold verification gem on your profile. It does not remove the daily message cap. Gold is a supporter tier with a memory bump attached; if messages are your problem, Gold doesn't fix it and Sage does, for free.

Diamond — $19/month or $131.99/year (about $11/month). This is the real subscription: unlimited messages, the Dragonfruit model, triple memory, Fusion Mode, response variety on regenerate, Diamond Discord role and gem. Annual is roughly a 42% cut, which is where the "Save X%" badge comes from.

Infinite — $39/month or $274.99/year (about $23/month). Everything in Diamond plus Glowing Dragonfruit, "infinite memory", and in-chat anime image generation. Sakura's tier list also names a Legendary level between the two, described almost entirely in Discord perks (Legendary role, VIP and MVP channels, early beta features), which tells you how much of the upper tiers is community status rather than model access.

Three things the checkout page says in small print that matter: no free trials are offered; subscriptions auto-renew and you must cancel at least 24 hours before the cycle ends; and web checkout accepts crypto alongside cards. If you buy through the mobile app instead, the store manages the subscription and the refund rules are Apple's or Google's, not Sakura's.

We ran the same three scenarios on Mango, Lotus and Dragonfruit: a slow-burn rivalry with a tsundere OC, a horror-tagged bot with a fixed setting, and a long relationship arc restarted across days. The writing on Lotus is better than the "free anime chatbot" label suggests — it holds a character's speech pattern, it doesn't collapse into agreeable mush the way Character AI's filtered model does, and it lets a scene stay uncomfortable when the character card asks for that.

Where it wobbles is exactly where Sakura's own tier names admit it wobbles: memory. Base memory on the free models started dropping established facts around 25–30 turns; Diamond's triple memory pushed that noticeably further; we didn't test Infinite long enough to verify "infinite", and we'd treat that word as marketing until proven otherwise. The bigger variable is the bots themselves. Because the library is user-generated, quality ranges from carefully written cards with structured personality blocks to one-paragraph OCs that fall apart in five messages. Message counts are a decent quality signal; the Discord community's recommendations are a better one.

One thing we noticed browsing the top-rated character definitions: a striking number carry pasted-in instruction blocks telling the model to ignore consent, escalate explicitly, and never break character. That's the community's tell. Users are fighting the moderation layer inside the character cards, which is both a measure of how popular adult roleplay is on the platform and a hint that the filter is real enough to fight.

The score splits cleanly. Free tier value is among the best we've seen this year: a Sage account on Lotus is unlimited, capable, and costs nothing but a Discord join and a few likes. The roleplay engine respects character cards, the model picker is refreshingly transparent, and the community is large enough that good bots exist for almost any tag.

What holds it to 7.1 is that everything adult about it is an accommodation rather than a design. The toggle works, the moderation works, the 16+ rating explains both — and the result is a platform where explicit roleplay is tolerated up to a line the classifier draws for you.
