PepHop is a web app for chatting with AI characters, most of them made by its users, in English, Spanish and Japanese. Its pitch is simple: a big catalogue, explicit text roleplay for adults, and plain dollar plans priced by message count rather than coins.

This review is based on things anyone can check: the plan data and plan cards shipped in pephop.ai's client code, its subscription terms, refund policy, terms of service, privacy policy, blocked-content policy and transparency report, its public XML sitemaps, the tracking tags in the homepage source, and Trustpilot, all checked on 20 October 2026. It is not a hands-on test, so there are no chat logs below and no verdict on writing quality. What sits behind the login wall, we flag as such.

What You Get

• Format: text roleplay with community and private characters, plus voice calls.
• Adult content: an NSFW switch that unlocks adult characters once you confirm you are 18.
• Billing: three plans metered by monthly message count. No coins or tokens on top.
• No store app: the site's code links to no App Store or Google Play listing, and we found no official store app. PepHop runs in a mobile or desktop browser.
• Other names: the domain eosai.chat redirects to pephop.ai with a ?from_eosai=1 tag, and the code still contains plan names for "PLANE Classic" and "PLANE Elite".

Character library & creator

The library is PepHop's strongest point, and the counts back it up. The plan cards claim "20K+ public characters", which is lower than PepHop's own sitemaps show. On 20 October 2026 they listed:

The totals are identical to our August count, so the sitemaps may not be refreshed often. They are still the best public inventory available, and they fit PepHop's own Q3 2024 transparency report: users created 53,160 characters in that quarter alone. The home feed sorts by For You, Popular, Trending and Latest, with filters for SFW only, Spicy only and NSFW only.

Every paid plan card lists "Create custom private characters", and PepHop's FAQ says you can set a character's backstory, personality and memory behaviour. The creator itself sits behind the login wall, so we can't list its options the way we did for sites that publish them.

Memory, models & voice by plan

We don't grade writing without a fresh test, so this sticks to what the plan cards promise. They tie three things to your tier:

• Model: Lite promises "Real-like responses" with no size given; Classic says "(70B)", Elite "(70B+)". PepHop doesn't name the model.
• Memory: Lite lists no enhanced memory. Classic lists "Enhanced chat memory (4K)", Elite "(8K+)". PepHop's FAQ separately promises "adaptive memory", and the app has a chat-memory switch.
• Extras: Classic and Elite add "Longer and fast responses"; Elite adds priority access to new features and support.

A 4K or 8K context window is small for long stories, so expect earlier details to drop out. The most recent Trustpilot review (December 2025) complains of "very poor memory".

Voice calls draw on the same message quota. The call settings in the account area offer a standard voice at 12 messages of quota per minute and a premium voice at 62 per minute. Spent entirely on calls, Lite's 2,000 messages cover about 166 minutes of standard voice or 32 minutes of premium; Elite's 16,000 cover about 1,333 or 258 minutes. Adult Content: What "Uncensored" Covers

PepHop sells itself on uncensored chat. The welcome screen calls it "the ultimate destination for uncensored roleplaying", "Uncensored chat" is a bullet on every paid plan card, and the FAQ says that with NSFW mode on you get "no-filter AI sex chat". The Blocked Content Policy, linked in the footer, sets the limits in seventeen lettered prohibitions. The ones that matter most for adult roleplay:

So "uncensored" here means explicit text inside a written rulebook, with no explicit pictures at any tier. The policy also makes you "entirely responsible for the content produced by the AI Companions". Pricing & Which Plan to Choose

Prices sit in the site's plan data in US dollars. We loaded the page from France and the data still listed dollars, with no euro version. Prices seen on 20 October 2026:

The plan picker labels the 3-month option "20% off" and the annual option "40% off". The subscription terms confirm that all three periods renew automatically until you cancel. Free users get a limited number of trial messages, which PepHop does not quantify; the code also contains a "Start 3 Days Free trial" button and a promise to email you a day before a trial ends, so some visitors are offered a trial that turns into a paid plan. Sharing PepHop can earn 400 extra messages, according to the account page.

Three notes from the code. First, it holds two feature lists for the same plans: a short one ("High-quality AI responses", "Fast response") and the longer plan cards quoted above. Second, the current plan picker for signed-in accounts lists Classic and Elite only, so the $4.99 Lite tier may not be offered once you are logged in; we could not confirm this without an account. Third, the code still contains an older price grid ("Was $30/month" Classic at $15 a month, Elite at $35) and a 20,000-message Elite variant, both switched off in the current build.

Cost per 1,000 messages

PepHop meters by message, so the useful number is what 1,000 messages cost on each plan and billing length, assuming you use the whole quota:

The gaps between tiers are small. Monthly Elite costs six times as much as Lite for eight times the messages, about 25% cheaper per message. Billing length matters more: annual Lite costs 40% less per message than monthly Lite.

Which plan we'd pick: start on monthly Lite at $4.99 (or monthly Classic at $9.99 if Lite isn't offered on your account). It is enough to find out whether the library and memory suit you. If you end up chatting most days, annual Classic at $5.99 a month ($71.93 a year) is the sweet spot: 5,000 messages, the 70B model and 4K memory for about $1.20 per 1,000 messages. Only go annual once you're sure, because PepHop generally won't refund a year paid upfront. Elite is worth it only if you use voice calls heavily or need the 8K+ memory.

Before You Pay

Everything below was checked on 20 October 2026. None of it changes what the plans include, but all of it affects how safe the purchase is.

Refunds, cancelling & who runs it

• Refunds: the Refund and Fraud Policy (17 January 2024) says PepHop "generally do[es] not offer refunds for purchases or subscriptions", treating the free trial messages as your chance to evaluate. Exceptions required by consumer law are reviewed case by case via contact@pephop.ai; the subscription terms give billing@pephop.ai.
• Cancelling: the subscription terms say you can cancel from your account page and should do so at least 24 hours before the period ends; you keep access until then. The account page warns that deleting your account does not stop billing.
• Company: the footer reads "© 2023 Pephop, Inc.", the policies name "PEPHOP AI", and the About page says its "primary operations are in the United States and Europe". There is no postal address, registration number or governing-law clause. The terms send disputes to individual arbitration under "Section 10.2", but the terms stop at section 9.
• Chargebacks: PepHop says it will challenge chargebacks it considers unwarranted, and users may owe chargeback fees if a claim is found fraudulent.
• Payment: card checkout asks for Visa or Mastercard. The code routes payments through several processors (Airwallex, Chargebee, Evonet, Stripe, Paddle and Gumroad), plus a Patreon checkout, and the About page links a SubscribeStar Adult page. The Gumroad store hard-coded in the client, pephop.gumroad.com, returned a 404 on 20 October 2026. The plan picker promises "No adult transaction in your bank statement". Which processor bills you decides where you manage the subscription, so check your receipt.
• Age checks: the Underage Policy says you confirm your age "by checking a box"; the refund policy lists "Identity verification during signup" as a fraud measure. We saw no third-party age verification on the public pages.

Sales pressure on the pricing page

The pricing view runs a "Get Pro 70% off" countdown that restarts for another 24 hours whenever it runs out. A rotating banner shows messages like "***K subscribed 3 minutes ago": the code fills in a random capital letter and a random number from 1 to 6, so the message is not a real sign-up. PepHop's pricing copy claims both "Join over 1 million users worldwide" and "Join Over 200K+ Satisfied Users", and we found no source for either number. Judge the plans on the prices in the table above, not on the timer.

Privacy promises vs the terms

Every paid plan card promises "Secure messaging with strong encryption" and "Chats are private and not used for training". Here is how the documents compare:

• Training: section 3 of the terms of service (last updated 17 January 2024) says that by submitting content "you grant PEPHOP AI a worldwide, royalty-free license to use it in connection with operating and improving the App". The privacy policy lists using data "to evaluate and improve our Service". No policy page repeats the no-training promise.
• Encryption: the only security statement in the privacy policy is the standard line that no method of transmission is 100% secure.
• Trackers: the homepage source loads Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, two Meta Pixel IDs and Microsoft's Bing UET ads tag. Google's consent mode is set with ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and analytics_storage all "granted" by default, before any cookie choice. The app code also sends your IP to freeipapi.com for geolocation.
• The privacy policy: it has no date, although it promises to update a "Last updated" date at the top. Its cookie list has three categories (Necessary, Notice Acceptance, Functionality), with no advertising category. It never names Google, Meta, Facebook or Microsoft, or mentions the GDPR. It defines the company's country as "Bishui Plain, Liyue", a fictional region from the game Genshin Impact. It cites the "Free Privacy Policy website", spells "browser" as "br/owser" eight times, and its children's section uses under-13 boilerplate on an 18+ site.

We are not saying PepHop trains models on your chats. The promise is on a price card, the licence is in the contract, and the contract is what counts. If that matters to you, get the no-training promise confirmed by email before paying.

User feedback

There is little to go on. On 20 October 2026 PepHop's Trustpilot profile was unclaimed, with three reviews (one 1-star, two 2-star) and a TrustScore of 2.9. The complaints: "overpriced for limited messages per month", "anime options only", limited search and poor bot memory. Three reviews are not a trend, and there is no store app with ratings to weigh against them, so our User Feedback score stays at the neutral 5.0.

Moderation & content safety

PepHop's transparency report covers Q3 2024 only (dated 20 October 2024), so it is two years old. It does contain figures: of 53,160 characters created that quarter, moderators reviewed 16,885, marked 1,524 as NSFW, hid 8,897 and removed 2,145. Its "most severe violations" list includes 893 for child exploitation, 2,325 for real-person impersonation, 1,174 for incest and 383 for non-consensual content. Users reported 1,054 characters, and 163 reports led to action.

Those numbers show moderation happening. They also show how much prohibited content users try to post, including content involving minors. PepHop's public tag list still includes a "School" tag, and its sitemap includes user-made character titles such as "Teen-neighbor" and "High-School-Girls". We did not open these characters and can't say what they contain. If you use PepHop, report anything that sexualises minors; the policy bans it, and so do we.

One more stale page: the FAQ at pephop.ai/faq, as rendered by the current code, still answers "What will you do with my keys?" with "The whole project is open-sourced so you can check and see what the code does." We found no published source code for PepHop, and nothing in its plans involves user-supplied keys.

PepHop is one of the cheapest paid ways into explicit text roleplay, with a big community library. It does little beyond text, and you get no refund if it disappoints.

On price, PepHop is easy to understand: dollars for messages, with nothing hidden behind coins. At $4.99 a month for 2,000 messages, or $2.99 a month on annual Lite, it scores 9.0 for value, and adult text chat is open to verified-by-checkbox adults on every plan. Features score low (3.8) because the official pages announce text chat, voice calls and a character creator, and nothing else: no image generation, no video, no store app.

Billing is middling (5.0): prices are public and you can cancel yourself, but refunds are generally refused, the company gives no address, and the pricing view uses a restarting countdown and fake "subscribed" notices. Three Trustpilot reviews are too few to score, so user feedback sits at a neutral 5.0, and community characters with school-themed titles cost half a point.

Who should use PepHop AI:

• Text-first roleplayers who want a large character catalogue for a small monthly bill
• Users happy to start on monthly Lite and upgrade only if they use it
• People who treat any AI chat as potentially readable by the company

Who should skip it:

• Anyone who wants explicit images, or whose favourite scenarios are on the banned list
• Users who need a refund safety net before paying for a year
• Anyone who needs privacy promises written into the terms
• Long-story roleplayers who need memory beyond a few thousand tokens
