The Ledger: What Yodayo Was, What It Is

Reviewing Yodayo as a product is the wrong frame, because the product people search for no longer exists. The right frame is a change log. Every row below is taken from the platform's own pages — the dated content policies, the dated community posts that survive on both domains, and the purchase pages as they rendered for us in August 2026. Third-party figures are marked as such.

Two years on from the ban, the search volume is still attached to the old name. If you arrived here from a "yodayo nsfw" query, the ledger already answered you: that version closed in August 2024, and the company's own users said the rebrand was partly meant to bury it. The rest of this review is about what is left standing — which is more than nothing, as long as nothing in your plans involves nudity.

Two Doors, One Building: Yodayo vs Moescape in 2026

The single most confusing thing about Yodayo today is that it was never shut down. Open yodayo.com and moescape.ai side by side and you see the same menu (Tavern, Posts, Videos, Image Gen, Image Presets, Video Gen, Music Gen, Voice, Model Hub, Mobile App), the same Tavern leaderboard — "World RPG" by Mitchell with 18.0 million messages on both, "Storyteller" at 4.4 million, "Elven Knight – Aelrie" at 2.3 million — and the same community posts. One account logs into both. The differences are cosmetic, commercial and, in one case that matters here, editorial.

Read the category row twice. The same database of characters is filtered through two different front doors: the Yodayo skin still lets you browse by MILF, NTR, Futanari, Yaoi or Yuri; the Moescape skin — the one with the app-store listings — removes those tags from the filter entirely. That is a storefront decision, not a content one; the bots exist either way and the generation filter is identical. But it tells you what each brand is for. Moescape is the version designed to pass an app review. Yodayo is the legacy door kept open for the community that built the place, with the cash register moved next door.

What "R-Rated" Actually Gets You

The policy language is precise, so we will quote it rather than paraphrase. Yodayo's current rules define three ratings — PG: safe content; PG-13: slightly revealing clothing/attire, light violence and gore, generally suggestive; R: revealing clothing, violence and gore — and then draw the line: "Users can opt-in for R rated content but any sexually explicit content that contain nudity or excessively lewd content are not allowed for both generation and publishing (art and characters)." A second sentence closes the loophole people usually look for: "Users are also blocked from generation and publishing of content that are considered sexually explicit for both art and characters." Private generation is not exempt. The 2024 ban announcement was explicit that it "covered private and public bots alike", and the policy reflects it.

The toggle, then, is a visibility switch, not a permission. With "Show Sensitive Content" on, R-rated art and characters from accounts you follow appear in your feed; R-rated models remain "up to the moderators' discretion". That is the entire unlock. It does not change what the image generator will render or what a Tavern character will say. A comment left on the platform's own "How to return all adult content" thread in July 2026 sums up the experience better than we could: "my content rating is at R+ but it's still filtering my chats." It is, and it will.

Moderation is two-layer: an AI classifier rates everything at publish time, humans review flags and appeals ([email protected] or the in-app appeal button), and accounts that "attempt to bypass our content moderation" are terminated with data "permanently unrecoverable". Jailbreak culture, in other words, is treated as a bannable offence rather than a cat-and-mouse game. Tavern, Judged on Its Own Terms — 7.0/10

Strip out the NSFW question and Tavern is a serious roleplay product. The library is enormous and public message counts are displayed on every card, which makes quality easy to triangulate: RPG frameworks ("World RPG", "Fantasy RPG", "SCP Foundation"), fandom scenarios (My Hero Academia, Naruto, Star Wars, DC), slice-of-life setups ("Your roommate", "Grumpy x Sunshine", "Mafia Family") and the whole tsundere/yandere/kuudere taxonomy. The feature list on the home page — memory, reasoning, lorebooks, voice cloning, images inside chat, 24/7 availability — is the standard 2026 roleplay kit, and the creator economy is unusually generous: public bot authors earn a 20% commission on user messages once a bot passes 4,000 interactions in 90 days, paid out daily in credits.

The model ladder is where the plans do their work. The plan cards in August 2026 name them directly: Pro unlocks "unlimited chats with select models including DeepSeek V4 Flash, Ultra, Elune and Apollo 70B"; Premium adds "Athena, DeepSeek V4 Flash, DeepSeek V3.2, DeepSeek R1, Nephra 70B"; Platinum carries the same model list as Premium with more credits. The home page also name-drops GLM and Claude. Output length is rationed by tier — 700 tokens on Pro, 900 on Premium, 1,000 on Platinum — and every paid plan promises "better memory in chats" without a number attached. Free users chat on the base models and pay per message from their daily credits; community pricing breakdowns put a standard reply at roughly one credit, which matches what the daily allowance can absorb.

Where it loses points against Janitor AI or Chub AI is not the engine, it is the ceiling. A roleplay site where "Dominant" and "Submissive" are filter tags but the model refuses to follow either past a PG-13 line is selling a steering wheel with the road fenced off. The writing quality on the Pro-tier models is good; the character cards are rich; the experience ends exactly where the interesting part of adult roleplay begins.

Image, Video, Music, Voice: Where the Product Is Still Good — 8.5/10

This is the part of Yodayo that deserves its reputation, and the part the rebrand protects. Loading the generator logged out showed a Model Hub with current anime-focused checkpoints — Seedream 5.0, GPT Image 2, Anima-2.9B, WAI-Illustrious-SDXL, NoobAI/RouWei Illustrious mixes, Ozia variants — on top of the Stable Diffusion, Flux and Illustrious-XL families the home page advertises, and a "105,000+ Models & Spells" counter for the community library. Spells are LoRAs by another name: style spells (artist styles) and character spells (per-character LoRAs tagged by series), and you can train your own for a consistent character. The settings panel is the full power-user stack — Hires.fix, Regional Prompter, ADetailer, ControlNet, a High Priority queue switch, image-to-image from a 3 MB upload, negative prompts and a "quality tags" toggle that pre-loads the booru-style boosters anime models want. The generator quoted 7 credits for a single image at default settings when we loaded it.

Around the image core sit four newer tools: Video Gen ("powered by top models like Minimax, Google Veo 3, Kling"), Music Gen from your own lyrics, an AI Voice generator, and Image Presets for template-based output. Add the Yoda-chan / Moe-chan assistant (beta) and the platform reads as an anime creative suite rather than a generator with extras. The honest limit is the same one as everywhere else on the site: the classifier sits between the prompt and the render. Nudity is refused at generation, "excessively lewd" suggestive images are reclassified and pulled, and profile or banner images with nudity are replaced with defaults and can get an account suspended if re-uploaded. Realism is not the point either; the models and the community are anime-first, and the Model Hub reflects it. Everything costs credits — YoBeans on the Yodayo door, Mochi on the Moescape door, the same balance. Credits come from three places: the free allowance, one-time packs, and the monthly grant attached to a subscription.

One-time packs, identical on both domains: 1,300 credits for $10, 3,000 for $20, 8,000 for $50 (18% off), 17,000 for $100 (23% off), 85,000 for $500 (23% off). Note the oddity in the subscription ladder — Plus grants more monthly credits than Pro (1,400 vs 1,250) because Pro's value is the unlimited chat, not the credits. Roleplayers want Pro; image people want Plus or a pack; Premium and Platinum are for people who want the bigger chat models or train a lot of spells. Annual billing takes 25% off every tier.

Free credits beyond the daily claim come from Discord quests and weekly contests, an ambassador programme, and milestone payouts — 150 credits per 1,000 likes and collects on your posts, 200 per 1,000 uses of a model you uploaded, 100 per 1,000 uses of a spell — capped at 1,000 credits per rolling 30 days. Purchased credits and earned credits do not expire. The refund policy is short and unforgiving: requests within 7 days, considered only for extended downtime or unauthorised card use, with "dissatisfaction with the service output" and "accidental purchases" named as exclusions. A Worked Month on the Free Tier

Because Yodayo's real competition for an NSFW-minded reader is "free and uncensored elsewhere", the useful question is what the free tier is worth here. Thirty daily claims plus the sign-up bonus is 1,600 credits in a first month. Using the 7-credit default image quote and the roughly one-credit message figure the community reports on base models:

That is a more generous free tier than most companion apps offer — HeraHaven gives 40 messages total — and it is why Yodayo still pulls millions of visits a month despite the ban (third-party trackers put it at roughly 2.4 to 4 million, down from the 12 million peak). Moderation, Company, Apps and Refunds

Company. YDY AI Limited operates both domains; third-party write-ups place the registration in Hong Kong and note that card statements read "Moescape AI" whichever door you paid through. Support runs through community@ addresses on each domain and a Discord server the home page puts at 40,000-plus members.

Age and content enforcement. The platform is not an adult site and does not present as one: no age-verification gate, a content policy that bans nudity, and app-store distribution on the Moescape side. The banned-content list is the usual one — minors in any suggestive context (with unusually detailed rules on clothing, poses and photorealism), bestiality, non-consent and incest outside narrative context, celebrity deepfakes "whether created with or without the use of AI", characters based on real people, self-harm, hate and harassment — and the penalty is termination with unrecoverable data. Our position is the same as on every review: fictional adults only, and a platform that enforces the minors rule this explicitly is doing the right thing.

Apps. Moescape links to iOS and Android apps; yodayo.com offers an APK download instead. The community thread on restoring mature content stresses that content settings must be changed "on the site, not in the application", which is consistent with the app builds being the stricter surface.

Money. Subscriptions auto-renew monthly or annually; cancel before the renewal date. Refunds, as above, are effectively limited to outages and fraud, with a 7-day window. Pay monthly until you know which tier you actually use, and buy credit packs rather than a subscription if your usage is bursty — packs do not expire.

The August 2024 threads name the destinations themselves — creators announced they were re-hosting explicit bots on Janitor AI, and comments pointed to SpicyChat and CrushOn. Two years later the map looks like this:

Yodayo is a good anime creative suite reviewed on a site whose readers want the thing it removed. Both halves of that sentence are true, and the score is the average of them.

The 8.5 for the toolkit is deserved: nothing else at this price gives you ControlNet, ADetailer, a hundred thousand community spells and LoRA training on the free tier, and Tavern is a well-built roleplay engine with a creator economy attached. If your work is SFW anime — VTuber assets, consistent OCs, fan art, PG-13 story roleplay — use Moescape, put $9.99 on Plus or $14.99 on Pro depending on whether you render or chat, and ignore everything said about the old site.

Everything else pulls the number down. The explicit ban is total, enforced at the prompt and unchanged since August 2024; the toggle is cosmetic; the company's own customers believe the rebrand was meant to erase the platform's NSFW history, and the Moescape storefront — stricter policy, ten adult-leaning tags quietly removed — supports them. Brand clarity is poor for a reason: yodayo.com exists to keep the legacy community logged in while the money moves to Moescape.

Use Yodayo/Moescape if: you want anime image tooling and story roleplay with no nudity, a generous free tier, and you are fine with a Hong Kong operator and a refund policy that amounts to "no".

Skip it if: any part of your use case is NSFW. Not "mostly SFW with some spice" — any part. The platform will block it, and the ban on "attempting to bypass our content moderation" means trying is how accounts end. The alternatives above are where that use case lives now.
