Dopple AI lets you chat with "Dopples": AI bots, mostly made by other users, based on fictional characters, celebrities or original personas. It runs in the browser and as an app on iPhone and Android. The version of this page dated 2 September 2026 reported dopple.ai answering every request with "Payment required". We could not reproduce that: on 20 October 2026 dopple.ai redirected to www.dopple.ai, which loaded normally, as did the browser app at beta.dopple.ai, and Internet Archive captures from 19 August, 20 September and 29 September 2026 also show working pages.

This review rests on things anyone can check: the website and the plan data its code loads, the terms of service (last updated 6 June 2023), the privacy policy, the App Store and Google Play listings, recent App Store reviews, Discord's public invite lookup and Trustpilot. It is not a hands-on test, so there are no chat logs or sample images below. Where a fact comes from the site's code rather than a visible page, we say so.

What You Get

• A large community catalogue. The public homepage on 20 October 2026 sorted bots into 14 categories: Images, Anime, Movies, TV shows, Games, Kids shows, Comics, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Original, Silly, Religion, Philosophers and Helpers. Each card shows a message counter, and several featured bots display 10m.
• Character creation. Any registered user can make a Dopple. The About page mentions chat themes and settings, and image generation inside chats "from conversational context".
• Image generation. Built into chats; Dopple+ lists it as unlimited.
• Its own model. The About page says an internally developed "Dopple AI LLM" powers the bots and claims it was the most preferred model in a blind study of over 1,000 users. That claim comes from Dopple, with no published study behind it.
• Platforms. Web, iPhone (released 30 November 2023, per the App Store) and Android (1M+ downloads on Google Play).

What is not documented: persona length, memory and character caps. App Store reviewers in 2024–2026 ask for longer persona fields and say the bot forgets earlier messages. A 2024 reviewer describes giving a character a voice by uploading an audio file; we could not confirm the current process, which is behind the login wall.

Adult Content & Filters

Dopple is a general character-chat app, not an adult-only product, and its adult scope is soft. The catalogue includes user-made bots labelled "NSFW!!" or "r34", but users disagree on what actually gets through: some 2026 App Store reviewers praise the lack of a filter, others say spicy chats are now "heavily censored" (24 September) or that filters became a "buzz kill" (21 August). The App Store rates Dopple 18+ and lists sexual content or nudity, while Google Play's US listing rates it "Everyone". Pricing & Which Plan to Pick

Dopple has no public pricing page: /pricing returns a 404. The prices below come from the plan data in the web app's JavaScript, read on 20 October 2026, in US dollars (we loaded the site from France and saw no other currency). In-app prices on the App Store and Google Play are not shown on the store pages.

Which plan to pick. Start on the free tier: it costs nothing and shows you whether the characters you want are there. If the ads or the waiting room get in the way, Dopple+ monthly at $9.99 is the plan we'd pick first. The annual plan is cheaper per month ($5.99, less than Kupid AI's 3-month Pro plan), but it is a year paid upfront under terms with no refund clause, for apps that haven't been updated since spring. Move to annual only once you know you'll stay.

Dopple does not state the free tier's message limit. The web app says "Never stop chatting. Unlimited & free." and the App Store promises "unlimited messaging at no cost", yet an April 2026 App Store reviewer refers to a 100-message limit and another describes waiting "A DAY" to keep chatting. Assume the free tier is capped.

Before You Pay

App Store reviews filed in August, September and October 2026, all on version 1.1.153, describe chats going blank or freezing, replies repeating, and the bot answering "Sorry, I can't continue with that" mid-conversation. A 5 October review is titled "Bruh, it's now oct 2026. any updates?" We couldn't check the community subreddit, which blocked our requests.

Billing, refunds and who runs it

• Company: Dopple Labs Inc. Copyright notices go to 251 Little Falls Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808, and support to support@dopple.ai. The terms send copyright counter-notices to the federal court in Delaware.
• Terms: dated 6 June 2023, so older than the Dopple+ subscription. They contain no subscription, renewal or refund clause. They do include binding individual arbitration under JAMS rules, a class-action waiver (with a way to opt out of arbitration), and a $100 cap on Dopple Labs' total liability.
• Payment on the web: card checkout through Stripe, according to the web app's code. The renewal notice under the web plans talks about turning off auto-renew "from your iTunes Account settings", text apparently copied from the iOS app.
• Cancelling: app-store subscriptions are cancelled in your Apple or Google account. For web subscriptions, the web app's code includes a "Cancel Plan" option in the account area, behind the login wall.
• Your chats: the terms say all chat history "may be stored, analyzed and used by Dopple Labs for various purposes", and that Dopple Labs may delete content or terminate accounts, including inactive ones, without notice.
• Privacy: the policy shows no revision date and parts of the text appear twice. The App Store privacy label says diagnostics data may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Catalogue safety

• Sign-up age is 13. The terms and the privacy policy bar users under 13, or under 16 in the EU. Nothing in them requires users to be adults, and we saw no age check on the public pages.
• Mixed catalogue. The same public homepage shows a "Kids shows" category (Peppa Pig, Bluey, Dora the Explorer, a bot simply called "Baby") alongside user-made bots labelled "NSFW!!" or "r34" and a bot built around a violent sexual fetish.
• User report of underage bots. A 2-star App Store review dated 5 October 2026 says there are "MULTIPLE UNDERAGE chatbots" and names one whose title sexualises a six-year-old. We did not search the catalogue for it, and we can't say whether it has been removed.
• Real people. The Girlfriend category listed bots named after Taylor Swift and an online influencer, and the Movies category a bot titled with a real actress's name followed by "18+ Nude OF". The terms ban impersonation and content that infringes others' rights.

This is user-made content rather than Dopple's own characters, but it is why we would not point a teenager to Dopple, and why adults should stick to characters who are clearly adults and report the rest.

What users say

• App Store (US): 4.3 stars from about 1.1K ratings. The lifetime average holds up, but reviews posted since July 2026 are mostly 1 or 2 stars and cover the bugs listed above, plus a July bug that showed the same portrait on most characters.
• Google Play: 2.6 stars from 9.92K reviews (US listing, 20 Oct 2026).
• Trustpilot: an unclaimed profile with a single review: 1 star, July 2025, from a user who says they paid £54.81 for an annual subscription, still saw the free version, and got no reply from support.

On paper Dopple has a lot going for it: a big community catalogue, character creation, image generation in chat, apps on both stores, a 4.3-star App Store average and one of the cheapest upgrades in the category at $5.99 a month on the annual plan. The score is held back by a soft, inconsistent adult scope, prices that only appear inside the app, terms with no refund clause, and apps that have gone months without an update while users report broken chats. The catalogue mixes children's characters with NSFW-labelled user bots on a platform open from age 13.

Who it suits:

• Adults with an existing account and characters they want to keep
• People who want to chat with fan-made characters for free, on the web
• Light roleplay users who'd pay $9.99 to remove ads and the waiting room
